This Is the Day

This Is the Day

As I reflect on this morning, I am standing in gratitude.

For the small things.

For the big things.

For simply getting up today.

For the small things like my dogs.

For the big things like my family.

I find myself returning to a verse I love deeply

“This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

There is so much to rejoice about if we choose to see it.

There is also another option. We can focus on what is missing. We can replay what has been done wrong to us. We can magnify our problems and allow them to shape the tone of the day.

One of the greatest deceptions I have heard is the belief that this is complicated.

It is not.

It is simple.

Wake up.

Recognize the day the Lord has made.

Rejoice.

Be glad in it.

I think about the words in Matthew 6:33

“Seek first the kingdom of heaven and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

So often we flip that around.

We try to gather all the other things first. We chase outcomes, comfort, security, and control. Then we hope those things will bring us joy and peace.

But joy does not come from outcomes.

Peace does not come from control.

Fulfillment does not come from accumulation.

Those come from the Lord.

Today is a good day.

A day to be present.

A day to spend time together.

A day to notice the sun, the air, the stillness, and the gifts that are already here.

Especially during this season as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I want to raise the flag of gratitude. I want to count my blessings. I want to say prayers for those in need.

I am grateful for Bella Love.

I am grateful for Barbi.

Even though Bella does not have bowling today, we are given something just as meaningful. Family coming into town. Time together. Presence. Shared moments.

Sometimes the gift is not the event.

Sometimes the gift is the space the day creates.

Today I choose to look at the sunny side of whatever comes my way. I choose to count it all joy. I choose to remember that this day is not an accident.

This is the day the Lord has made.

I will rejoice today.

I will be glad in it.

I will seek first the kingdom of heaven and His righteousness.

And I trust that everything else will be added in its proper time.

Let us make today a great day.
