Title: June 13, 2025 – Do Your Best: Is It Really Enough?
This morning, I found myself reflecting deeply on a question that seems simple on the surface, but carries a lot underneath:
Is doing your best really enough?
The answer I kept coming back to was yes—but not in the way the world might define it.
Legendary UCLA coach John Wooden taught his players that your best is good enough. He didn’t say “be perfect.” He didn’t say “win at all costs.” He said: give it your best.
That kind of mindset frees you. It allows you to detach from the pressure of outcomes—scoreboards, results, judges, critics, fans, foes, even fate itself. All the things wrapped up in “what will happen” begin to fade. Because when you truly give your best, you’ve already won something greater: peace.
To give anything less is to cheat—not just the task, but the gift you’ve been entrusted with. The gift of greatness. The responsibility to show up with everything you’ve got. That greatness lives within us, not just because of what we can do, but because of who gave it to us.
I know this because I’ve heard the voice of those who’ve gone before me. I’ve seen the look of people who know. And I remember what I once read—that He knows my best. The man behind the fireplace. The One who watches not from the stands, but from within the fire. He knows when it’s my best.
And today, that’s enough.
