The Story We Tell Ourselves in Uncertainty
As I walked this morning in the soft rain, I found myself thinking about the podcast I was listening to—Justin Su’a talking about uncertainty and the stories we tell ourselves when life feels unpredictable.
He said that when we don’t know what’s going to happen, our ego rushes in to fill the gaps, to create meaning that makes us feel safe. That hit me. Because when things get cloudy in my own life, I know how quickly I can build a story in my mind just to quiet the discomfort of not knowing.
But uncertainty… that’s where growth really lives. It’s where faith, leadership, and performance take root. It’s where we discover who we really are and who we’re becoming.
So I asked myself—what story am I telling myself right now? Is it one of fear or one of faith? Is it one of doubt or of direction?
When I align my inner compass with the truth of who I am—a child of God, a husband, a father, a leader, a man grounded in purpose—the uncertainty becomes a gift. It becomes a chance to write a better story.
A champion doesn’t need certainty to move forward. A champion moves because their roots are deep. They move because they’ve been strengthened by the storms, by the family that came before them, by every challenge that’s molded their heart.
Today, even though I can’t see everything ahead, I walk with peace. I know all things will work out for good. I love life. I love God. I love the story that’s still being written.
