“She’s Not Racing Someone Else—She’s Racing Herself”
It’s July 11th.
Bella is inside the Airbnb getting ready for day one of competition. The sun isn’t even up yet, but she is. Her quiet discipline reminds me of something I just heard from Dr. Rob Gilbert.
He was talking about Dr. Terry.
A 70-something-year-old woman. 4’11”. Racing a course designed to break people half her age. She’s climbing hills. Enduring heat, humidity, dehydration. And yet… she’s not racing anyone else.
She’s racing herself.
Like David facing Goliath.
Like Bella walking into today.
And while Dr. Terry faces literal storms and the threat of hallucinations, Bella faces pressure, expectation, and the invisible voice that whispers, “Don’t mess this up.” But neither of them are racing against a person. They’re both choosing to step into something bigger than themselves.
This isn’t about beating someone.
This is about becoming someone.
Dr. Terry is becoming the woman who finishes the impossible.
Bella is becoming the young woman who walks through fire and emerges with clarity, peace, and purpose.
This morning reminded me—sometimes your fiercest opponent is the voice inside. And when you quiet that voice, you don’t win the race…
You become the reason for the race.
