– Morning Walk Reflection: Rewiring the Voice Within

This morning, as my feet found rhythm and my heart got pumping, I turned inward to the most powerful tool I have—my mind.

Today’s focus: self-talk.

Pulled from The Hard 90 with Zach Sorensen, featuring What to Say When You Talk to Yourself by Dr. Shad Helmstetter, the message was clear:

“Your brain simply believes what you tell it most.”

That’s it. That’s the game.

We spend far too much time letting 75% of our thoughts default to the negative. If you said to your best friend the things you silently say to yourself, they wouldn’t stick around. So why tolerate that internal voice any longer?

The elite mindset requires intentional rewiring.

We flip the script.

We create new signposts.

We slow the mind down, and we speak life.

Our thoughts either program us for success or failure—moment by moment. And this isn’t hype. It’s science. The brain will begin to look for what you consistently tell it. When you speak strength, the brain searches for it. When you affirm resilience, the body starts to believe it.

So I asked myself today:

What if I spoke to myself with love, truth, and discipline—like I would to the people I coach or care about the most?

Self-talk isn’t just an idea—it’s a training. It’s creating hourly touchpoints with truth:

  • Write it in a journal.

  • Save it on your phone screen.

  • Put it on a note card.

  • Read it every hour.

Say things like:

I am resilient. I can do hard things. I embrace challenge. I am being prepared for something greater.

We don’t have to fake it—we just have to focus it. The thoughts may come back, but you’ll be ready. Prepared. Trained.

Self-talk is the simplest tool—but the hardest to master.

And that’s why it’s worth the work.
