Decisions That Shape Our Destiny

Decisions That Shape Our Destiny

As I walked today, I found myself reflecting on the weight of decisions. Every choice carries layers—facts and details, emotions and impulses, values and intentions. Some decisions seem small, like choosing which road to take when driving to a destination. Others feel minor in the moment, like a play call on the field in the middle of a game. Yet over time, even these “simple” choices can ripple into something much greater.

Decisions are never just about the moment. They are about where we want to go. Our choices reveal our desires—to move closer to peace, to create opportunity, to build a better future. Each day when the sun rises, we are invited to choose not by preference or passing feeling, but by values and principles.

Because feelings can be fickle. They rise and fall like waves. If I make a decision in the heat of a feeling, it may shift tomorrow. But when I make a decision anchored in truth and guided by my values, it stands firm. That’s what it means to lead myself well: to choose beyond what feels easy in the moment and instead act from what I believe to be right.

Some decisions will shape our lives forever—where we live, who we marry, what work we give our hands to. Others might seem smaller but still matter—how we treat people, the gratitude we practice, the way we respond in pressure moments. Sports remind me of this reality every day. A game can turn on one decision—good, bad, beautiful, or ugly.

And so can life.

We decide. And in that decision, we write the story of where we’re going.
