Day Two – A New Pattern, A New Perspective
This morning, as I finished up my workout in the fitness center, I found myself reflecting on how far this journey has brought us. Today’s medium pattern is named after Danielle McEwan—Bella’s doubles partner in the Youth/Adult event at Junior Gold each year—which makes the day feel even more symbolic. But beyond the name on the pattern, it’s the evolution I see in Bella and Lindsay that strikes me the most.
They started this journey as giggly, wide-eyed ten-year-olds, just happy to be in the bowling center. Now, they show up with intention. With direction. With a sense of mission. They are still joyful, still silly at times—but there’s a groundedness in who they are becoming as competitors, and as young women.
As I get ready to help them carry their gear to the lanes and get set for another day of competition, I’m reminded what a privilege it is to play this role in their lives. To witness their growth. To watch them meet the challenge of a new day, a new pattern, and a new set of variables. Nothing about today’s lanes will be quite like yesterday’s, and that’s what makes this sport so beautifully humbling and educational.
Bowling—like life—is a game of constant adjustment. Of learning to process results in a way that helps you grow. Of staying aware, so you can choose the right response. The best bowlers, like the best people, don’t just react—they reflect. And they adapt.
Bella and Lindsay have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what’s even more beautiful to me is how they carry that talent—with grace, with joy, and with a deepening sense of maturity. I’m honored to serve them, to support them, and to simply stand back and watch them rise to the moment.
Today is a new day. A new pattern. Let’s go.
