BLOG TITLE: The Road That Led Us Home
Today was a long drive—miles of road behind us, winding up from Springfield, Missouri, all the way to my brother’s front door.
But more than the distance, today held something deeper.
We arrived in Wheaton, just as the skies started to settle. My wife, my daughter, and I pulled into a familiar neighborhood, to a familiar face. My brother Gabe and his family welcomed us in with warmth that only time and love can build.
And today wasn’t just any day.
June 14th.
The anniversary of our mom’s passing. The day she went home to be with the Lord in 2021.
It felt right that we were here—together.
We laughed. We talked. We cooked. We walked the same sidewalks she once walked. We remembered her not in sadness, but in presence. In the way her grandkids ran through the house. In the way Gabe and I stood side by side like old times. In the way family, even after hard seasons, finds its way back.
Tomorrow is Father’s Day.
And tonight, I go to sleep with a full heart.
Because being here—with my wife, my daughter, my brother, his wife, and their kids—reminded me that no matter the years, no matter the losses, no matter the miles…
Family remains.
We’re not perfect.
But we’re still here.
Still growing.
Still holding on to what matters.
And that’s enough.
