BLOG TITLE: Biscuits, Baseball, and Blushing at Buc-ee’s: Day One Heat Check

This morning was exactly what you hope for on a road trip—good food, random laughs, and one future baseball star ambushed in the Buc-ee’s parking lot.

We started our day somewhere between Springfield, Missouri and full chaos. Barbi couldn’t find her sandal. We blamed Jimmy Chavez. He didn’t take it, but we joked he probably would’ve if he could’ve.

Once we got everyone’s shoes located—or at least mostly accounted for—we headed to Buc-ee’s. Let’s talk food haul:

I got my classic kolache, tried out a new biscuit-centered kolache that honestly changed my life a little, snagged three different chocolate bars, grabbed a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, and topped it all off with hot coffee and Buc-ee’s iced tea.

Barbi went full Buc-ee’s pro mode—zero hesitation—locked in on beef jerky and candied pecans like it was a championship grocery run.

As we were getting back to the car, Barbi and Bella noticed a teenager walking into Buc-ee’s wearing an Arkansas baseball shirt. I felt the nudge to connect, so I called out, “Sir!”

He stopped. I asked, “Do you play baseball?”

He did. When I asked if he wanted to play for Arkansas, he said yes.

We started talking baseball, and I asked if they had watched last night’s College World Series game—Louisville’s wild comeback, only to lose on a walk-off by Oregon State. His mom walked up and said they were actually headed to Omaha to watch Arkansas vs. LSU.

That’s when Barbi jumped out of the car, mid-biscuit, mid-moment, and declared, “We’re doing a vlog!” Camera rolling. Bella was in the back seat, quietly trying to disappear from embarrassment.

We kept chatting and I asked what Arkansas fans say—just like A&M has “Gig ’em.” He smiled and said, “Suiii Pig!”

We all yelled it back as they walked off: “Suiii Pig! Y’all be safe!”

That’s how day one really kicked off—full car, full hearts, full stomachs, and a whole lot of laughter.
