Blog Post: Slow Down. Laugh Hard. Hit the Road.

Today marked Day One of our 11-day journey to Illinois for the PBA Junior World Series of Bowling—and we didn’t start with speed. We started with rhythm.

Bella and I got up early, walked the dogs, rode the golf cart, and tossed the ball under a sky that felt like a blank canvas. We didn’t talk about packing. We just connected. We practiced our morning journal ritual of Creation. Connection. Contribution.

We read a passage titled “Slow Down to Go Faster.” Bella’s reflection was strong:

“Sometimes going fast is just easier, but in reality, is it done right?

Take your time, manage the small stuff, and do it right.”

Then came mine, ending with a simple reminder:

“What am I rushing? Justice, results, direction, healing?

Slow down. Let patience breathe. And all is faster.”

Before Bella left for work, we broke the flow of routine in the best way—by roughhousing in the house like a couple of teenagers. Barbi had to yell “Stop!” twice. That joy—that laughter—shifted the energy.

And just like that, we were both ready:

She to go to work.

Me to go pack.

The journey has already begun.

The road may take us to Illinois, but the real trip is found in the stillness, the silly, and the slow.

Waiting and Uncertainty

This morning I reflect on waiting and uncertainty and how both can feel like quiet teachers. Waiting is not empty. It is practice. It is the slow strengthening of patience. And uncertainty is not puni
